YOU’RE INVITED!
On Monday, August 1, 2022 at approximately 11:30 AM a high altitude balloon (HAB) will be launched to near space from the Amsterdam Inn and Suites at Florenceville-Bristol. Attached will be a cylindrical payload containing 4 computers, 6 cameras, 2 tracking systems, radio transmitter, and instrumentation gear. If all goes well, the payload will reach near space achieving a planned altitude of 100,000 feet or 30 km. A radio ground tracking system will download images to a ground computer, permitting live images to be displayed at the “Control Centre” at the Amsterdam Inn.
Prior to the launch at 10:30 AM, a brief discussion of the launch system and its tracking systems will be given at the Amsterdam Inn and Suites Conference Centre. At the planned time of launch (11:15 AM) all attendees are welcome to watch the liftoff from the grounds of the Amsterdam Inn. The balloon and its payload will be tracked live with tracking assistance provided by the Fredericton Amateur Radio Club (FARC). The launch is part of a program to prepare for the total solar eclipse of the Sun in April 2024, which will be the first total eclipse of the Sun in New Brunswick in more than 1090 years!!!
